Education

Pathfinders educational beliefs are:

• That education is the key to helping young people make the most of their potential
• That all young people are entitled to a good education
• That Pathfinders will continually support the young person and the school to maintain educational placements
• That none of our young people are unable to learn
• That education takes place both in school and at home and that all learning experiences are of equal value

“We go out to school like everyone else”
A young person living at pathfinders

“Staff have given young people ‘brilliant’ support in relation to their education and that they have been helped to settle in school as a result”.

A Social Workers comment to Ofsted

Pathfinders work very hard to integrate and support our young people into external education placements as we truly believe that this element of normalisation helps to generate the best possible outcomes for them.

On arrival at one of our homes Young People, Home Managers and Local Authorities work with our own Education Support Manager with over 25 yrs experience of Special Education in identifying an appropriate education provision that will be able to meet the young person’s needs. This will always take into account any Special Educational Needs identified in SEN Statement.

Where do our young people go to School?

We like to think that due to a lot of hard work and real partnership development we now have our own little ‘chocolate box’ of provisions that we can consider making referrals too for our young people, these include;

Mainstream Primary and Secondary Provision
Local authority PRU’s or Special Education Provision
Independent / Special Provisions
Colleges and Further Education Provisions
Alternative/ Vocational Provisions
Work Experience Provisions.

My Week Programmes

If a young person arrives at Pathfinders without an Educational placement the home staff develop an individual ‘My Week’ work programme that includes structured educationally biased activities, visits and Independent learning skills until a provision has been found.
